Forza Motorsport 3 is the eagerly awaited sequel to the definitive racing game on the Xbox 360, while the game itself is going to be an instant hit. I’m looking at one of the inside features that is going to open up a whole new world for Forza. Forza 3 gives the player the ability to not only save replays but edit them into videos to upload to the Forza servers. People in the past have had to create their own montages the hard way like you record the TV then upload the video to your computer then edit it in Windows Movie Maker then post it in forums.
However with the recent explosion of user created content has meant that more games are incorporating the ability to record content and post it on the game servers for players to download such as videos/maps/game modes for Halo 3 or songs for Guitar Hero.
Forza 3 has managed to achieve this very well by building the movie maker into the game so that right form your first race you can use the replay to start making cool little videos to show your mates or just post for people to see. The Movie Maker itself can record in 720p HD however this can make the video making process become very time consuming due to the amount of time it takes to create the HD video.
The movie maker will export the HD videos straight to the Forza 3 servers where they can then be edited together to make some amazing displays such as the example that lead Game Director ‘Dan Greenawalt’ gave at E309 earlier this year. Obviously I don’t expect to be able to create videos half as decent as that however Forza 3 has given its players the ability to make videos with ease.
