Envisaged as a digital entertainment centre the PS3 complements the era of high-definition television by incorporating a Blu-ray and HDMI connectors. The console has an Internet browser, hard-disk, and acts as a true media-centre capable of playing different types of multimedia. It offers transparent connectivity with the PSP for Wi-Fi. the O/S is compatible with the Linux distributions. The online service, PlayStation Network, lets you download games and play network games free, demos, watch trailers and allows access to other services. The controller, called DualShock 3, rumbles and does motion detection providing total immersion with the genuine games. In October 2008, more than three hundred original titles were placed on the console.
The PlayStation 3 console was available in two configurations after launching a 60 GB a cheaper 40 GB model replaced it. In 2009, the models 160 GB and 80 GB are gradually coming to replace them. However, the backward compatibility of PS2 games is not unlockable.
The PlayStation 3 hardware is just as famous as being a top Blu-ray Disc drive, a format designed for HD Tv and to replace the DVD. Blu-ray storage capacity is about 25 GB of data on a single-layer disc and 50GB for a dual-layer disc. All PlayStation 3 games are burned to Blu-ray. The reader reads both Blu-ray video, DVD video, AAC audio CD as standard.
