Forza Motorsport 3 is the eagerly awaited sequel to the definitive racing game on the Xbox 360, while the game itself is going to be an instant hit. I’m looking at one of the inside features that is going to open up a whole new world for Forza. Forza 3 gives the player the ability to not only save replays but edit them into videos to upload to the Forza servers. People in the past have had to create their own montages the hard way like you record the TV then upload the video to your computer then edit it in Windows Movie Maker then post it in forums.

However with the recent explosion of user created content has meant that more games are incorporating the ability to record content and post it on the game servers for players to download such as videos/maps/game modes for Halo 3 or songs for Guitar Hero.

Forza 3 has managed to achieve this very well by building the movie maker into the game so that right form your first race you can use the replay to start making cool little videos to show your mates or just post for people to see. The Movie Maker itself can record in 720p HD however this can make the video making process become very time consuming due to the amount of time it takes to create the HD video.

The movie maker will export the HD videos straight to the Forza 3 servers where they can then be edited together to make some amazing displays such as the example that lead Game Director ‘Dan Greenawalt’ gave at E309 earlier this year. Obviously I don’t expect to be able to create videos half as decent as that however Forza 3 has given its players the ability to make videos with ease.

Multiplayer has always been a key part of game culture. Despite the many stereotypical opinions of the gamer as a recluse I have always found the experience to be an incredibly social one. In fact, as far back as I can remember the best games have always been the ones that can be played with a group of friends. So surely with the advances in game culture as they are today the possibilities for multiplayer experiences on the Xbox 360 console can only be getting better?

It’s true some aspects of the format are improving considerably. I can log on to Xbox Live any time of day and jump straight into a game with up to 24 different people. I can search the entire length and breadth of the world for gamers wishing to experience the same games I do. But what about playing a game with a group of friends in the same living room? It seems to me that if it’s possible to coordinate multiplayer games across huge networks with people all around the world then in shouldn’t be too much trouble to provide split screen play for a single console. Perhaps not. It appears that games manufacturers have forgotten this waning area of consumption in favor of the glossy appeal of the online market.

This is not to say that there are no split screen multiplayer games available any more. Both the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series have been doing incredibly well out of this market and some of the bigger games like Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare still provide a single console multiplayer function but they are now in the minority.

My request to games manufacturers for the Xbox is simply this. When you next design your game, think of the group of friends sat around at home, looking for a game they can all play together but coming up dry. Surely that can’t be too much to ask? The only other option is to buy a Wii. by Steve Bull, published by Chip Searl on Ezinearticles.com

We were all born with a silver console in our corners. Whether your weapon of choice is from Nintendo, Microsoft Xbox360, Sony PS3 or the humble PC, nearly every household in the country will have some sort of console. Many of the games nowadays played on consoles, consist of a fair amount of shooting, maiming and killing enemies, be they human or not (some games may not include this fun-factor, but where’s the fun in that?). The amount of gore and graphic detail that we can see in these games may be described by some as distressing or even sadistic, and plenty of people may see this as a threat to society. However, I may need to remind game bashers that it should be remembered these games are not reality. Pixels, sadly, cannot be killed or hurt in any way, no matter how realistic they may look. Gamers, who are extremely aware of this, play these games to escape the reality that they may not be enjoying that day so much, or they funnily enough may just want to have fun. This fact never occurs to some people. Furthermore, these games are also not intended for less mature audiences. There are laws and things for this; it’s on the box and sometimes in the game too. Games offer a parallel world where the grim details of life can be forgotten and the person’s focus can be on something more positive. It’s not every day I get to save the entire universe from the forces of evil. They may alternatively just want to destroy their friends at Halo 3 online, or die trying. It is these ultimatums of life or death in games, especially in FPSs, that offer very normal people a relative feel-good factor for their day. While the censorship of games is a constant battle as to whether they are truly the cause of violent crimes, I firmly disestablish this as a fact. I think that the opposite is in fact true. Games are our Matrix; only without a real life and death factor. If we could not escape to a virtual world to fight all guns, swords or axes blazing, we might have no solution other than to try it for real.
After all, a game a day keeps the psychosis away, as prescribed by millions the world over. by Joshua Grimmer

Its a known fact that the PlayStation 3 has been needing a killer game for a while now. Sure there has been games such as Killzone 2, inFamous and others which has been hyped up as being the next thing for Sony’s console. However even though these games have been decent at best, they still haven’t been the game that Sony’s console needed.

Now two years after the PlayStation 3 was released in the UK the sequel to one of the consoles best game is about to be released. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was one of the best games available on the console for a long time, it was praised for its great story telling and graphical fidelity. However can Uncharted 2 live up to its hype and become the killer app that Sony really wants and needs. At first signs the answer is yes, the game has been received well by critics, the game currently holds a metacritic rating of 96. Reviewers are going nuts about this game giving it insanely high reviews.

Good reviews for a game are a start and the game does certainly hold a triple A rating. However what needs to be seen is how Sony tells people about the game. Sony have been lacking in the marketing department for some of their games creating weird adverts that don’t quite get the message across to the consumer. This is what could damage the games reception by the mass public and not allow the game to be the best seller it deserves to be.

So in answer to the question is Uncharted 2 the PS3’s saving grace, the answer is yes. The game has been heralded as one of the best games for a while and is a definite must buy for any gamer. However what needs to be seen is if Sony will get the message to the general consumer to make this game the killer app that their console needs. by James La Broy

Who already saw the X files, can immediately suspect that a different horror-fps got out from Monolith’s workshop. We have already experienced amazing games from the Washington domicile, like the two of NOLF parts, AvP II and TRON 2.0, which ones undoubtedly are the best inner view action game (FPS games).
Monolith can consider partners beside them, like Microsoft, Vivendi Universal, Fox Interactive and Disney. F.E.A.R. was prepared by Warner Bros support, which can be seen from features as cinematic and realistic gameplay.
FEAR’s largest interest is that it does not have one single element that we may not have seen earlier, however it amazes people with its story line and its elaborateness.
The graphics and the physics of the game could be “the fruit of Havok and the Source’s marriage” with some wrong genes, and the artificial intelligence points out solutions that I only saw in scripts in the past.
The graphics are fascinating. Beautiful water, pleasant (bar slightly exaggerated and firmly noisy) physics, high resolution, sharp structures, character models drawn up well, superb animations and spectacular usage of lights and shades makes the game extremely arresting.
Must be mentioned for an innovation that the dust caused by the cartridges slamming into the plaster settles down slowly and its main character has the ability to slow down time (slow motion).
The constructions of the stages are well designed but too lineal and in some places are monotonous.
We are spoiled by the sounds; the weapons sound shockingly realistic, the noises are well calibrated (EAX 2.0). Our eyesight may go away temporarily if a bombshell detonates beside us and our ear rings for a few seconds. HL-feature also is that the music is not playing generally, on the other hand when an important action scene starts up on a level like as if we would be in a cinema to express the importance of the scene.
In summary the game is very well designed, enjoyable due to its features. The game has high system requirements to fully enjoy all the features but it is possible to run it on a weaker configuration so the players with older computers still can play and follow the breath taking storyline. by Endre Urban

… Better still play it on a ready console system it was made for – Xbox 360

After years of sitting in a badly lit room, sprawled across a sofa shooting aliens, scoring goals or being the next James Bond, I have come to the conclusion that, whatever you get out of this experience it can never be real.

PS2 beats PS3 experience with Friends

Microsoft and Sony are always in constant battle to produce the next best thing in gaming, trying to make the most real experience, the HD, the virtual world, the alternate reality but be realistic here; it’s supposed to be a game not real life. If I wanted to assassinate corrupt world leaders, then I would join the army. I believe that it has gone just too far, there isn’t any fun left in games, nothing you can laugh at when there is a glitch. Videogames are just too perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a 8bit addict or a Sega lover, I like my games to have some graphics and sustenance but also the game element. I want a console that delivers games that do not make me cry if I lose my saved game. I want a console that brings friends together in my own room, not half way across the world. Believe it or not, I found this wonderful piece of technology. At the time when Zavvi was Virgin Megastores (and not bankrupt), my Dad took me to Exeter and told me he was going to buy me a present. At the time I didn’t know but it was to be the most life changing gaming experience out there. So, we walk in, I get to choose a game (Simpson’s hit and run) and I get my console: The Playstation 2. The PS2 simply is the best. There is no HD, no £40 online gimmicks, it is just pure classic gaming. It is the console to own, millions of games; platform, sport, RPG’s, singing, whatever takes your fancy. I recently moved out and brought my PS2 with 2 games: Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Fifa 07 and everyone comes round to play. Mr PS3 down the corridor and Mr Xbox 360 upstairs are being shunned for the mighty PS2. SO my pledge to my readers is this, don’t go spending hundreds of pounds on fancy technology, buy a PS2 for £30 and I promise you will get more friends.

PS3 slim consoles have become one of the most popular video games in the market. Not only are they designed for children and teens of all ages, but adults in their 30s and 40s also enjoy the experience of the overall features of the PlayStation3 console.

The standard PS3 deal used to go for a hefty USD 400. This being a big drain on the pocket, many enthusiasts used to look for cheap PS3 consoles at their nearest pawn shop. The systems that are bought in the pawn shops are often times brand new. However, you can go for a PS3 bundle that includes an 80GB PS3 bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 – two of the most popular games available for it. In fact this is the best PS3 bundle and you can purchase it for the standard PS3 price of USD 400.

If you and your friends are keen enthusiasts of this product, you all can go for the complete PS3 packages that include:

A Console with 40GB Hard Disk Drive
2x Wireless Controller DualShock 3
3x random games
Blu-ray/DVD/CD player
AV multi-out, Digital optical, HDMI
480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p Resolutions

…and much more. This, of course, comes at a much more heftier tag of USD 599.99. The complete package is also available for the lovers of this product in the United Kingdom. Just type PS3uk in any search window and go for it.

Accessories & Features

The assessories include:

Wireless Keypad
Wireless Controller
PlayStation Eye

The features include:

PlayStation Network – which allows Internet connection enabling you to download games
Blu-ray – which allows you not only to watch online movies but high resolution DVDs as well.
PS3 slim does not come with a memory card as it offers 60GB or 80GB space for you to download and store your music, movies, and games. As the space is so big, the product does not need a card.
You can access the PS3 stores through the main menu, where you can purchase your movies, games, and other products of your choice.

With so many features, your PS3 slim is worth the money you spend on it. However …

The New PS3 Slim!

This is real hot news!

This announcement was made from Germany on August 18, 2009. As of September 1, 2009, you can purchase a newer version of the product. Sony has also changed the brand name from PLAYSTATION 3 to PlayStation 3. The newer version is 33% smaller and 36% lighter. The power consumption is also 34% less!

The slimmer PS3 slim comes with a 120GB hard drive with a very affordable price tag of USD 299. It has been announced that the slimmer version will have all the features the current version has. This means that the new version will still not be compatible with older PS2 versions.

The new product has a completely redesigned system and this includes the main semiconductors, the power supply units, and the cooling mechanism, as well.

The only place to buy "Sony PSP Go!" console games is going to be on Sony's PSN.

With a noticeable lack of third party support by games developers, “PSP Go!” hopes gamers will embrace digital distribution instead of traditional exposure gained from having games in shops. One online shop reverted their decision to boycott stocking the console due to its digital download content only limitation. At Game Stock a decision was taken to give the PSP Go! a go. The PSP Go! console is out to pre-order now for release on 2nd Oct 2009, Game Stock has put together a page about the new console and how it compares to its predecessors.

The only place to buy “Sony PSP Go!” console games is going to be on Sony’s PSN. Once downloaded it is believed the games can re-downloaded time and again as and when required, in cases of changing a console and memory perhaps. The most beneficial aspect gamers want is the ability in trade in old for new at their favourite game shop – but no confirmation has been announced to date. Meaning digital content is likely to be locked to your PSN user ID. From a copy protection viewpoint it would be completely acceptable, to create similar EULAs for content, but for games this is a new concept. On the one hand Sony can control the monopoly of Go media on the other it could easily be integrated at retailers on the high street and online by simple asset management transferring digital license ownership to lock and unlock media. “We look forward to the possibility of comparing digital media download prices”, as much as game consoles.

Typically games players engage in conversation about pre-ordering and the joy of a product being physically delivered to their door. Similarly engaging in conversation about trading in games where to get the best bundle, deal and price is something that will be foreign in PSP Go community. Elite members with no physical game collection. Kudos will be given to those owning both the PSP 3000 Slim and PSP Go. Meanwhile the PSP 3000 is to remain on sale during the testy transition into the digital download market.

A brief look at the competition spotlight focuses towards two other main contenders for on-demand gaming. Apple iPhone and DS I: Both have similar handheld consoles which allow on demand software accessibility via WiFi, open 24/7 for download. Nintendo DS I console lets you have the best of both. Digital on demand gaming and provides 100% backward compatibility with DS games. These next gen handheld mobile devices all appear to be pushing customization-ability Apps, and exclusivity. PSP now with Apps. DSiWare – Nintendo. ‘There’s an App for that’ – iPhone.

With much uncertainty in the current economic downturn a handful of excellent games in shops will surely guarantee to keep Sony PlayStation owners happy. UMD games for the 3000 console and Blu-ray on its big brother (the PS3) set for 2009/10 release in order of ‘most anticipated’ at Game Stock: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA 10, Unchartered 2, and Final Fantasy XIV.

We have put together a special page on pre-ordering tips, prices and features of the PSP Go console.

The new PS3 branding: PLAYSTATION, in uppercase and a change of font unify Sony’s PlayStation consoles under the same look. A matte black effect finish was unexpected, though works well for practicality (not being a dust magnet).

Three years of PS3 and three major console changes. First was the 60GB PS3 with backwards compatibility on Play Station games. Then an 80GB and 120GB limited edition PS3 entered retailer departments last summer. And now the new chapter is about to start with the pre-ordering of PS3 Slim.

Many gamers are spectacle about buying a Slim for two mainly understandable reasons. The debate about whether it is worth existing PS3 gamers upgrading to stay credible in the community and those undecided on PS3 Vs Xbox 360. A majority of gamers have sat tight waiting for the PS3 price to drop, to be rewarded recently with £30 being discounted from console price this week. PS3 80GB: previous cheapest online price £279.99, current price £249.99. When talking about PS3 prices its essential to include the gigabyte model to quote the correct console. Just this year 40GB PS3 prices entered clearance at only £199, spotted by GameStock.co.uk stock checking systems. Inevitably, those console prices didn’t last long; even being in the midst of the UK officially announcing that the country was entering recession back in February 09.

One major advantage the PS3 Slim has over older PS3 is hinted in the new name, that’s being 36% lighter in weight. PS3 80GB was 7kg and bigger all round.

Pre-ordering a PS3 Slim ahead of September release date will guarantee you can get hold of one. In the past GameStock.co.uk has helped shoppers locate Nintendo Wii in 2006/07, DS consoles in 2008 and Wii Fit in 2009. http://ps3.uk.net/ is dedicated to just PlayStation 3. We have put together a pre-order PS3 Slim webpage listing prices, specification and features to compare.
