No sooner do we finish saying one thing, then find days later it is not the case any more. Take for example the Wii console’s lack of HD support. At best you can push the graphics output to 480i.

It’s no surprise the Internet is the cheapest place to buy games. Unless you do enjoy long queues and traipsing in-and-out of many shops comparing the cheapest price (or more usually trying to find in stock availability), then remember your over priced favourite shop will be expecting to see much of your wallet this Christmas
Being scammed on eBay is just as likely as rain in Monsoon Season. Just last week I was caught out again. Lots of private traders have their own crooked ways around eBay trading. On a lesser note even big companies act badly at times.
I signed up to the Official Nintendo Magazine with the offer of a free Star Wars Wii or DS game. Three issues with a FREE game. I read all the small print – no clauses, no limited availability, but when the free gift never arrived I asked Future Publishing several times and they just make excuses saying it was limited to the first 200. The advert that I kept is on page 72 from October ’07 issue also reads a ‘cash alternative to the same value’, but I can’t get that either.
This is how their Gotcha works. You telephone ONM with the FREE offer code, if you succeed in being inside the first 200 subscribers they take your details to complete the order. If the free gift offer limit has been reached, the telephone advisor asks you to visit the ONM website to place your order. Placing the order on the website makes ONM exempt from responsibility to tell you that there are no more FREE gifts.
Subscribers do not know who got a free gift. The telephone advisor said that the FREE gifts go almost immediately after publication. The Richard & Judy phone in competition is another example of unacceptable deception – picking a winner long before closing the premium rate phone lines – shame on you!
I will cancel, but it makes little difference as I’ve paid up. But never mind it’s a minor issue. The feeling of being “done” got me annoyed more than anything.
So how many Electrical goods have you purchased that are worth more money one year later second hand? Two, and both are Nintendo. LOL. No wonder they’re still in demand. Good products just sell themselves is testimony to the quality of both the Wii and DS.
During the run up to Christmas one catalogue retailer was the only place you could find a DS Lite in stock. Everyone who did not live in a closet knew would be hard to find, but nobody else anticipated the shortages of the Wii would result in huge uptake in Nintendo DS sales. Since the release in 2006 the console has proven its desirability to a massive range of gamers both old and young. As we approach February you would still struggle to find a in stock on the high street. That’s not just the games stores either. I’m talking all major stores in the UK!
With such an one sided balance between the two handheld consoles, many retailers put a big push on cross-selling PSP’s to those who thought the two console would be the same, they bought it, but for the majority there was only one handheld they wanted. Game over – the poor PSP Slim did not fly off the shelves. Having undergone intensive plastic surgery, Botox a strict low carbohydrate diet the hybrid movie player is proving an embarrassment to company that created the PlayStation Generation of People like myself.
I’ve also heard much talk of the DS Lite 2 is rumored to go into production later this year. Actually, I do not see the point in putting a newer DS console on the market this year. Adding a second edition to the DS range is pointless. Those who really want a bigger screen will soon be able to link the DS & Wii together to output on a TV anyway. So the whole larger screen debate is not the be all and end all either.
